Implementing OpenStack
on VMware vSphere
This whitepaper, a collaboration between Canonical and VMware, proposes a reference architecture for running OpenStack on VMware vSphere.
It draws on experience both companies have in joint customer engagements, and lists some best practices and recommendations for getting the most out of existing enterprise IT infrastructure while benefiting from new and open technologies such as OpenStack.
The reference architecture in this paper is intended for organisations with existing VMware data center deployments or expertise who want to limit changes to their underlying VMware infrastructure, but see benefits in a common abstraction and orchestration layer via OpenStack open APIs and Dashboard to control compute workloads.
“Using OpenStack and Ubuntu, we have created industry vertical cloud services that help our customers solve specific business problems - such as how to record, store and deliver digital content, and how to render animations in the cloud.”
